Trimble Connect ↔ Microsoft SharePoint synchronization

Bridge Trimble Connect — where structural engineering and MEP teams collaborate — and Microsoft SharePoint — where the PMO, contracts and client governance live. DMS Sync Manager keeps documents flowing both ways on a schedule, so no one has to download from Trimble and upload to SharePoint by hand.

How it works

Three steps to keep Trimble Connect and Microsoft SharePoint in sync.

01

Connect both platforms

Trimble Connect authenticates with OAuth 2.0 via Trimble Identity (TID). Microsoft SharePoint connects with OAuth 2.0 against Microsoft Entra ID (formerly Azure AD), either as a delegated user or app-only via client credentials.

02

Map Trimble project to SharePoint library

Choose a Trimble Connect project + folder as the source (or destination). On the SharePoint side, pick a document library inside a site. Trimble custom attributes map to SharePoint columns.

03

Set rules and cadence

Filter by file type, Trimble revision label, last-modified date, or SharePoint column value. Schedule hourly, daily, or on demand. Each sync run produces a complete activity log.

What customers do with it

A few real-world scenarios.

  • Push Trimble-issued package PDFs and IFC models to SharePoint so the PMO and clients can review without a Trimble licence.
  • Archive every Trimble revision in SharePoint for the project record and ISO 19650 audit.
  • Pull SharePoint-managed contract changes back into Trimble so the engineering team always works against the current scope.

"Projects rarely fail in design — they fail when teams can't trust they're looking at the latest version."

Frequently asked questions

Are Trimble Connect custom attributes mapped to SharePoint columns?

Yes. Each sync task lets you map Trimble metadata (drawing number, revision, discipline) to SharePoint columns so the destination library is searchable and filterable by the same fields.

How does this affect SharePoint version history?

Each new Trimble revision arrives as a new SharePoint version, preserving SharePoint's native versioning. The Trimble revision identifier is also written into a configurable SharePoint column.

Performance with large IFC files?

DMS Sync uses SharePoint's chunked upload sessions for files over 4 MB, so multi-gigabyte IFC and RVT files transfer reliably. Throughput depends on your Microsoft 365 tenant quotas.

Does this conflict with Trimble Connect's own SharePoint connector if installed?

They're different mechanisms — Trimble's own connector is a UI-driven manual link; DMS Sync is a scheduled, rule-based bridge. Most customers use one or the other, not both on the same project.

Are Trimble Quadri models supported?

This pair targets Trimble Connect (the CDE), not Trimble Quadri (the modeling app). Trimble Quadri models exported into Trimble Connect are then in scope.
