Trimble Connect ↔ Autodesk Construction Cloud synchronization

Keep models, drawings, and metadata aligned between Trimble Connect and Autodesk Construction Cloud (Forma) without anyone re-exporting IFC files by hand. DMS Sync Manager runs scheduled, rule-based jobs that bridge the structural / MEP teams modelling in Trimble and the project teams coordinating in ACC.

How it works

Three steps to keep Trimble Connect and Autodesk Construction Cloud in sync.

01

Connect both platforms

Authenticate Trimble Connect with OAuth 2.0 via Trimble Identity (TID) and Autodesk Construction Cloud through Autodesk Platform Services (APS). Both connections are scoped per project and stored encrypted.

02

Map project folders

Pick a Trimble Connect project + folder as the source (or destination) and the matching ACC project hub + folder on the other side. Direction is per task — one-way for safety, two parallel tasks for two-way.

03

Filter and schedule

Rules cover file type (IFC, DWG, RVT, PDF), Trimble revision label, ACC attribute (e.g. status = Approved), or last-modified window. Schedule hourly, daily or on-demand. Every move is logged file-by-file.

What customers do with it

A few real-world scenarios.

  • Push approved Trimble structural and MEP IFC models into ACC so the architectural and main contractor teams clash against the latest.
  • Mirror ACC issued-for-construction drawings back to Trimble Connect for the engineering team to reference without leaving their CDE.
  • Maintain a Trimble archive of every ACC revision for the engineering record of issue.

"Projects rarely fail in design — they fail when teams can't trust they're looking at the latest version."

Frequently asked questions

Does the sync touch original files in either CDE?

No. The source platform is read-only from the sync's perspective. New revisions arrive as new versions in the destination, never overwriting in the source.

Are IFC versions preserved end-to-end?

Yes. IFC 2x3, IFC 4, and IFC 4x3 pass through unchanged. The file body is bytes-identical at the destination; only metadata mapping is configurable.

How is authentication handled?

Trimble Connect uses OAuth 2.0 via TID with refresh tokens. Autodesk Construction Cloud uses 3-legged OAuth via Autodesk Platform Services. Tokens are refreshed automatically; users authenticate once during project setup.

What about Trimble Connect ToDos or BCF issues?

This sync targets the document/model layer (files + metadata). Trimble ToDos and BCF issue collaboration are not in scope for this pair; ACC issues stay in ACC.

Are there Autodesk API quota concerns?

DMS Sync uses APS APIs with built-in batching and exponential back-off. Most customers stay within standard rate limits even at hourly sync cadence.
