Box ↔ Autodesk Construction Cloud synchronization

Bridge Box — the enterprise content cloud where contracts, correspondence and company-wide documents live — and Autodesk Construction Cloud (Forma), the design CDE. DMS Sync Manager keeps drawings, models and metadata aligned so the office staff in Box and the project teams in ACC always work from the same set.

How it works

Three steps to keep Box and Autodesk Construction Cloud in sync.

01

Connect Box and Autodesk Construction Cloud

Box authenticates with OAuth 2.0 against your Box enterprise. Autodesk Construction Cloud uses 3-legged OAuth via Autodesk Platform Services (APS). Both connections are project-scoped and stored encrypted at rest.

02

Map Box folders to ACC project folders

Pick a Box folder as the source (or destination) and an ACC project hub + folder on the other side. Box metadata templates map to ACC custom attributes, and direction is set per sync task.

03

Set rules and schedule

Filter by file type (PDF, DWG, RVT, IFC), label, ACC status, or last-modified date. Run hourly, daily, every 6 hours, or on demand. Every run produces a full audit log.

What customers do with it

A few real-world scenarios.

  • Mirror approved ACC drawings into Box so clients, legal and subcontractors can access them without an Autodesk licence.
  • Pull Box-managed contracts and correspondence into ACC for the project record.
  • Maintain a Box archive of every ACC issued-for-construction package for company-wide retention and handover.

"Projects rarely fail in design — they fail when teams can't trust they're looking at the latest version."

Frequently asked questions

Does the sync touch original files in Box or ACC?

No. The source platform is read-only from the sync's perspective; DMS Sync copies the file to the destination. New revisions arrive as new versions, never overwriting the source.

Are Box metadata templates mapped to ACC attributes?

Yes. Each sync task lets you map Box metadata template fields to ACC custom attributes and vice-versa, so both platforms stay searchable on the same identifiers.

Is Box version history preserved?

Each new revision arrives as a new version in the destination, preserving Box's native version history on the Box side and ACC versioning on the Autodesk side.

Performance with large RVT and IFC files?

DMS Sync uses Box's chunked upload sessions for files over 50 MB, so multi-gigabyte models transfer reliably. Throughput depends on your Box enterprise limits.

Where is the data stored?

Sync workers run in eu-west-1 (Ireland). Files transit through the workers but are not retained — only metadata and audit logs are stored. For Box itself, EU data residency is available via Box Zones.
